Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 18, Verse 66

सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज |
अहं त्वां सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुच: || 66||

sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śharaṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣhayiṣhyāmi mā śhuchaḥ

sarva-dharmān—all varieties of dharmas; parityajya—abandoning; mām—unto me; ekam—only; śharaṇam—take refuge; vraja—take; aham—I; tvām—you; sarva—all; pāpebhyaḥ—from sinful reactions; mokṣhayiṣhyāmi—shall liberate; mā—do not; śhuchaḥ—fear

Abandoning all duties, take refuge in me alone. I shall liberate you from all sins. Do not grieve.

This verse towards the end of Bhagavad Gita gives Arjuna the last and final option, after putting forward various ‘reasoning’ philosophies like Sankhya, Karma, Bhakti Yogas of The Vedas.  Now, the Lord says that Arjuna should give up all the processes that he has explained earlier. That Arjun should simply surrender to the higher self. That surrender will save him from all kinds of sinful reactions, for the Lord personally promises to protect him.

Surrender to God | What Does Surrendering Mean ?

Surrendering to God is simply showing complete faith in Him and belief in his promises. Surrender is literally giving up all control. It is telling God that we are not big enough to deal with our worries, and He must take over. When we finally let go of all of our worries, we give God room to wield his grace in our lives. Control is the hardest thing to give up because without it we feel vulnerable. Letting go is scary at first, but the freedom in our mind and hearts will be worth it.

Surrender happens spontaneously with the knowledge that you are not in control of anything. When you realize that you are not in control of your life, but life is governed by some supreme law, then surrender happens.

It is unwise to think that the little mind can do everything in life, or is in control of life. Surrender is a realization that your effort cannot bring forth all that you want in life. When you are relaxed, you are in a state of surrender. If you are grateful for all that you have been given in life, then you are in a state of surrender. When you are totally helpless, and you realize your helplessness, then you are in a state of surrender. And this realization itself gives you solace, a sense of freedom towards happiness.
