Indian Stock Market Holidays list 2022

Indian stock exchanges — the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE have published a list of holidays for the stock markets in 2022.

As per the list posted on the BSE website, in 2022 there are 13 trade holidays in total. On these trading holidays, no trade will happen on the equity sector, equity derivative segment and SLB segment.

Here is the complete list of trading holidays in 2022 except for Saturdays and Sundays which are trade holidays by default. Also, the second list gives the holidays falling on Saturdays and Sundays.

In total, five holidays in the year for Ram Navami, Maharashtra Day, Bakri Id, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas fall on Sundays and therefore there are no exclusive holidays declared for these events.

Apart from this, Muhurat trading will be conducted. But, the timings of Muhurat trade will be announced through notifications subsequently. Muhurat trading is the auspicious stock market trading for an hour on Diwali (Deepawali). It is a symbolic and old ritual, that has been retained and observed for ages, by the trading community.  As Diwali also marks the beginning of the New Year, it is believed that muhurat trading on this day brings n wealth and prosperity throughout the year.

The stock exchanges might change or alter any of the holidays given in the list and any such changes will be notified through a separate circular issued in advance.

Market Timings

 The market timings of the equities segment are:

• A) Pre-open session
  Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 hrs
  Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 hrs*
  *with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry.
• B) Regular trading session
  Normal / Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 hrs
  Normal / Limited Physical Market Close: 15:30 hrs
• C) Closing Session
  The Closing Session is held between 15.40 hrs and 16.00 hrs
