Jersey is not at all a story of complete success also not a story of failures only. It is quite in between. The film is rooted in simplicity and reality. Shahid Kapoor shines in the role of the protagonist – a much sober version of Kabir Singh. A struggling father and a husband who is fighting his own demons and trying to live with what is-in for his life. Shahid yet proves again that he is definitely one of the finest and underrated actors in Bollywood. Conveying a lot through his eyes, you can totally feel the emotions running between Arjun & Vidya. However Mrunal Thakur’s character is not plumping out properly at end. The bond between father and son in the movie is terrific and filled with astounding emotions. Shahid’s real life father Pankaj Kapoor , the child artist Ronit Karma from Telugu original and Mrunal Thakur have all give out distinctive fare overall. Cricket, emotions, relations, failures and determination all are well interwoven in the movie. More than cricket, the movie highlights the dynamics of relationships – between a father and a son, a husband and a wife, a player and a coach, a failed cricketer and his friends. The charity match sequence is exhilarating and so is the intermission point. Post-interval, the scene where Arjun heads to the railway station just to shout in excitement is too good.
Jersey as Remake
Doesn’t matter if the movie is scene by scene remake of a Telegu movie, a lot of movies are. The movie here has its heart in the right place. It does feel fresh and tells a meaningful story, something that Bollywood should do more often. A faithful remake I must say !
Movie is pretty satisfying but wrong release time is showing impact on this. Its crystal clear that hype of KGF2 is adversely affecting the overall business here. Also, Original Jersey is available for free in Hindi dubbed version on YouTube, so audience may avoid spending money on cinema ticket. Kabir Singh was a blockbuster because Hindi version of Arjun Reddy was not available.
Overall a satisfying Bollywood outing !!
