Meeting Twinkle Khanna and Amish Tripathi: A Literary Fan’s Dream Come True
When I first read the invitation mail by Tweak India and Crossword to meet my favorite authors — Amish Tripathi and Twinkle Khanna , I knew I simply had to be there ! Mumbai, after all the city of dreams was calling. No matter that it would mean managing flights, hotels, and the event in just one day. No matter that my body would be ready to collapse and my mind running on fumes by the end. No matter that I had a baby at home, sometimes even babies need a break from us ( lolz ). Some things are non-negotiable ; like meeting your fellow writers and literary inspirations. So, I booked my tickets, packed my bag, and set off on an adventure from Patna that would somehow compress a lifetime of memories into 24 hours.
The Venue, the Wait, and the Snacks That Saved Me
The venue was abuzz. I managed to grab a refreshing drink and nibble on some delicious snacks, fueling my travel-weary self. The anticipation was electric. We were waiting for the grand entrance ; Twinkle Khanna and Amish Tripathi. They arrived fashionably late, of course , but by then, the excitement had only deepened even more. Amish Tripathi and Twinkle Khanna’s conversation was nothing short of brilliant , a perfect blend of wit and wisdom that kept everyone hooked. A lucky few were then chosen to ask questions. And guess what? I was one of them.
(At this point, I mentally high-fived myself for braving the madness.)

So I stood up, heart pounding but words ready.
I said with a grin,
“It’s very special to seethe divine wisdom and devilish humor sharing the same stage today !
The audience laughed, Twinkle laughed, Amish laughed.
Then, turning to Twinkle, I continued:
“Ma’am, your recent article in Times of India touched me deeply. In a world that’s obsessed with Ghibli-like perfection, your story about the humble beekeeper reminded us that true beauty lies in the imperfect, real hands that craft life’s true art. Thank you for bringing us that kind of truth.”
Twinkle smiled warmly. Amish immediately chimed in, saying,
“Absolutely! That article was a masterpiece. Real stories always connect deeper.”
Feeling a little bolder, I turned to Amish,
“Sir, Shiva is usually seen as a God, idealized beyond reach. But you dared to reimagine him as a relatable, grounded human figure. That creative risk paid off spectacularly. What future creative risks are you excited about?”
Amish’s eyes twinkled (again, no pun intended) as he replied,
“You know, when you create from a place of arrogance, controversies follow. But if you create from love, respect, and deep connection to your roots, the universe protects you. My work is simply presenting ancient wisdom in a modern form . So our youth can see the relevance of what’s already timeless. It’s not about creative liberties. It’s about respectful storytelling. The true power of stories lies in their ability to transcend time and connect us to something greater than ourselves. I believe in creating work that honors the past, respects the present, and guides us toward a more conscious future. “
I asked one last question,
“How can we, as writers, prepare ourselves to create such authentic and respectful work?”
Amish leaned forward slightly and said something I’ll carry forever:
“Read endlessly. Learn humbly. When you’re ready, the words will not just come from you — the deity will send them through you.”
Goosebumps? Yep. Check.
I sat down smiling ear to ear, feeling like the entire day — the chaos, the flights, the sleeplessness was worth just this one moment.

Soon it was time for the book signing. I got my copy autographed with their beautiful handwriting (which, by the way, I am never letting anyone borrow).

I had carefully packed a piece of home with me: three traditional Madhubani paintings from Bihar, one for Twinkle and one for Akshay Kumar.
I dashed to my bag, ran to Twinkle, and presented the gifts. She smiled so brightly and thanked me so warmly that my heart practically melted into a puddle right there. I had also planned to gift one to Amish… but a sudden wave of people swarmed him like he was the human embodiment of an open Wi-Fi connection.
And me? I had a flight to catch soon. Duty called.
I consoled myself that intentions travel farther than hands sometimes.
Back in the Cab: A Heart Full, A Story Ready
As I sat in the cab heading back to the airport, it hit me —
For the next few days (and maybe much longer), I’ll be reliving this day. Some days are not meant to be perfect. They’re meant to be intense, crazy, beautiful messes that remind you how alive you are. A whirlwind of chasing stories, asking thought-provoking questions, soaking in timeless wisdom, and sharing laughter with the authors I’ve admired for years. And yes, my suitcase was definitely heavier on the way back — with all the amazing goodies Tweak India had gifted us, from luxury perfumes to refreshing drinks. But more than anything, it was experiences and all the memories tucked neatly inside.
If you ever get the chance to run wild after your dreams, even if just for one hectic, happy day — take it.
Even if you have to book flights, beg babysitters, and run on adrenaline.
Because some stories are truly worth living.
