The Crocodile Paradox

The Crocodile Paradox

The Crocodile Paradox

The Crocodile Paradox is a famous and ancient paradox which ignited the minds of many great thinkers.

The Crocodile Paradox : The Story

A Crocodile steals a child and tells his father that his child will be returned if he can guess what the crocodile will do with the child.

The Possibilities

1. Father says that the Crocodile will return the child: In this case there is no clash if the crocodile did or did not return the child.

2. Father says that the Crocodile will not return the child: In this case even if the father is right, the crocodile cannot return the child because that would mean that the father has guessed wrongly and the child cannot be returned. If the crocodile decides to keep the child that would mean that the father guessed right and the crocodile should return the child, which it again cannot do! This is the paradox !!

The important thing to notice is the outcome of both the cases is contradictory to what the crocodile desires…that’s why it’s called a crocodiles dilemma. The crocodile dilemma serves to expose some of the logical problems presented by metaknowledge

These paradoxes show us the short fall of our intellect which we as human beings feel so proud of.

So what’s your solution to the Crocodile Paradox. Answer in comment !!
